Beneva was born at the tender age of 29, after an incredibly successful run as Chantal in the Golden Apple’s “La Cage Aux Folles”. “I realized I was good at it,” Ms. Fruitville has said “The biggest thing, though, was I realized I was pretty.”
In 2008, she began performing in drag shows at The Alley Bar & Lounge, a North Tamiami Trail gay bar, and at ID Martini on Honore Avenue. Within three months she went from a little-known guest performer to one of the bar’s most popular emcees.
“People have told me that I’m ingratiating,” she says, “that there’s a sparkle in (my) eye. People want to be (my) friend while (I) tear them apart.”
Ms. Fruitville has endeared herself to gay and straight audiences with her tongue-in-cheek Bible-thumping shtick and signature “jump splits for Jesus.”
Her non-bingo performances have garnered attention in unlikely places. Ms. Fruitville has also hosted drag shows at Bacalao Sports Bar & Grill near Ed Smith Stadium.
